Taxi Agafay to El Jadida
175 km · 2h 30 · Fixed price from €70. Private transfer from Agafay Desert to El Jadida's Portuguese citadel on the Atlantic coast.
From the Desert Plateau to the Atlantic Citadel
The transfer from Agafay Desert to El Jadida combines two of Morocco's most distinctive landscapes in a 2h 30 drive. Leaving the stony plateau of Agafay, the route heads northwest via Marrakech and out onto the Atlantic coastal plain towards El Jadida.
El Jadida (formerly Mazagan) is home to one of Morocco's most unusual monuments: a 16th-century Portuguese fortified city with a striking subterranean cistern whose vaulted ceiling reflects eerily in a shallow pool of water. The medina within the Portuguese walls is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, less visited than Essaouira but equally atmospheric.
El Jadida is also a popular beach resort with Moroccans, with a long sandy beach and a more relaxed vibe than Casablanca. It is a perfect stopover between Agafay and Casablanca, or a destination in its own right.

What to See in El Jadida
A UNESCO citadel city that most visitors to Morocco miss entirely.
Portuguese Cistern
Built in 1514 as an armory and later converted into a cistern, this underground vaulted chamber is one of Morocco's most extraordinary spaces. The shallow layer of water that floods the floor creates perfect reflections of the Gothic columns — haunting and beautiful.
The Portuguese Ramparts
Walk the 16th-century sea walls of the Cité Portugaise for views across the Atlantic and over the whitewashed medina. Unlike Essaouira's ramparts, you will likely have them almost to yourself.
El Jadida Beach
The wide sandy beach stretches south of the old city, popular with Moroccan families in summer. The seaside promenade has cafés, seafood restaurants and a relaxed Atlantic atmosphere far from the tourist trail.
