About Imlil

Gateway to Jebel Toubkal

Imlil is a small Berber village in the High Atlas Mountains, perched at 1,740 metres above sea level. It serves as the main trailhead for climbs up Jebel Toubkal — at 4,167 m, the highest peak in North Africa and one of the most accessible high-altitude trekking summits in the world. Every year, thousands of trekkers and climbers pass through Imlil on their way to Toubkal Base Camp and beyond.

The road from Marrakech to Imlil winds through spectacular Atlas scenery, passing traditional Berber villages with pink mudbrick kasbahs, ancient walnut orchards and narrow mountain gorges. The village itself has a handful of mountain guesthouses, mule hire services and local guides — everything you need to begin a Toubkal ascent.
